Everyday about as many visitors as commuters come into the city of Amsterdam. These visitors are an important part of the citys population, changing its rhythm and character. Here, the changes that have taken place in the way the city is used are surveyed - who uses the city on a normal weekday, weekends, holidays and festivals and, at what level and scale; what is the role of the city for conference-goers, parties, expats and students; and, where do the visitors come from and what do they come looking for? This information is translated into texts, statistical tables, maps and photographs that paint a picture of the increasingly multifaceted use of Amsterdam. Alongside, a series of new tasks for the planning and design of the city and its place within a regional context are also explored.
