This publication contains the projects, efforts and urban interventions carried out in the area of the lower river Besòs, with the intention of restoring as a public space this area of Barcelona degraded by pollution until very recently. Today the river is clean, the wastewater treatment plant and incinerator have been integrated into the urban fabric and ceased to be polluting, a big public space for leisure and cultural events has been created, with important architectonic landmarks. The Forum building by Herzog & de Meuron, the Convention Center by Josep Llu¿s Mateo, and a park by FOA are some exmples of this. Briefly, this publication narrates the complete transformation of an area in Barcelona which means the genuine expansion of the city centre.
