The title of this book is borrowed from "Toward a New Abstraction", the catalogue of the exhibition organized by Ben Heller at the Jewish Museum in New York in 1963, which included such artists as Frank Stella, Paul Brach, Kenneth Noland, and Raymond Parker. The aim of the project was to connect in spirit artists chosen from the New Abstraction movement, as opposed to other movements that determined the "spirit of the times" , such as emergent Minimalism and Pop Art.
