"People Meet in Architecture" is the official catalog of the 12th International Architecture Biennale. The idea of Kazuyo Sejima for this Biennale is to restart the discussion about architecture and its role in civilization, thus helping people relate to architecture while helping architecture relate to people and helping people relate to themselves. "With this exhibition" - asserts architect Sejima - "we are given the chance to test the various possibilities offered by architecture; to understand how it meddles with the new ways of living in the XXI century; to show that it is the output of different values and approaches. I would be very glad if, thanks to this experience, we could understand what our society is heading for." Kazuyo Sejima graduated at the Japan Women's University and worked in the studio of Toyo Ito. In 1995, together with Ryue Nishizawa, she founded SANAA, the Tokyo studio that designed the New Museum of Contemporary Art in New York, the Serpentine Pavilion in London, the Christian Dior Building in Omotesando (Tokyo), the 21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art in Kanazawa. In 2000 she was the curator for the Japanese Pavilioin at the 7th International Architecture Exhibition of the Biennale. She has taught at Princeton University and at the Polytechnique de Lausanne and is currently a lecturer at Keio University. She's been awarded the 2010 Pritzker Architecture Prize.
