"Why The Lion Roars" ist ein Künstlerbuch, das auf Anri Salas gleichnamiger auf Temperatur basierender Installation beruht. Für diese hat der Künstler eine Liste von 57 Spielfilm-Klassikern erstellt, denen er jeweils eine konkrete Wettertemperatur zwischen -11 bis +45 Grad Celsius zuordnet. Steigt oder fällt die Außentemperatur in der Kino- bzw. der Museums-Umgebung, in welcher die Installation gezeigt wird, so wird der aktuelle Film unterbrochen und ein anderer läuft an der Stelle weiter, wo ihn zuletzt das Wetter anhielt. Dadurch wird das örtliche Wetter zum Redakteur des täglichen Filmprogramms. Das Buch besteht aus 365 Filmprogrammen, gleichsam Tages-Wettervorhersagen, die auf der Witterung in Paris, dem Ort der ersten Präsentation der Installation, beruhen. Jedem Film ist neben einer bestimmten Temperatur auch eine Farbe zugeordnet, die auf den Buchseiten den Filmtiteln unterlegt ist. Anri Sala läßt auf diese Weise eine beinahe endlose Redundanz von Filmtiteln und entsprechenden Farbverläufen zwischen Warm und Kalt entstehen. *****
"Why the Lion Roars" is an artist´s book based on a composition of films that communicate through a feeling for temperature. The artist composed a list of 57 classic feature films, and assigned each one a degree of temperature between -11 and +45 degrees Celsius. A thermometer outside the cinema or museum continuously measures the temperature and simultaneously edits the film program. When the outdoor temperature changes, the program is interrupted, the film corresponding to the new temperature starting from where the weather left it last, provoking unplanned collisions of meaning. As such, the local weather becomes the editor of the daily film program. The book is made up of 365 film programs and the local weather forecast for each corresponding day of the installations run in Paris. Each film has also been given a colour, which highlights its title in the book, creating an almost infinite flow of colours between warm and cold.
